General
What is Collegion, exactly?
Collegion brings a community together academically. Members of your organization post what they need help with, and the rest of the community responds: classmates join in, and peer mentors and teachers step up to help. It's more than finding a study group. It turns the family your organization already is into a resource, connecting the people who need help with the people in a position to give it, all inside your own private network.
Do I need my school to sign up first, or can I use it on my own?
Collegion is organization-based — every student, mentor, teacher, and admin belongs to their school's own private space, so a school (or a department, club, or program within it) needs to be set up first. If your campus isn't on Collegion yet, the fastest path is having an admin, advisor, or department contact reach out through Bring Collegion to my campus.
Is there a mobile app?
Collegion runs as a responsive web app, so it works from any phone, tablet, or laptop browser without an install — the calendar, QR check-in, and every portal are built mobile-first since most day-to-day use (checking a session, scanning into office hours) happens on a phone between classes.
For students and mentors
Is it free for students?
Yes — for students, joining sessions, posting requests, forming study groups, and attending office hours doesn't cost anything. Collegion is licensed to schools, not billed per student; see Licensing for how that works on the institution side.
Who can become a mentor?
Any verified student can turn a help request into a session — there's no separate application process gatekeeping who's allowed to teach. What builds trust instead is visible history: attendance counts, session totals, and a leaderboard that surfaces mentors who consistently show up, and admins can review or remove a mentor if something goes wrong.
How does Collegion know which sessions or tutors I'll actually want?
The calendar quietly sorts mentors and teachers you've actually attended before to the front of the list, instead of making you scroll past strangers to find the one person you see every week. It's based on your own attendance history, not a purchased or shared profile.
For teachers
Is this only for peer tutoring, or can teachers use it for office hours too?
Teachers get their own portal for posting office hours and events, tracking attendance separately from peer sessions, and seeing insights on turnout over time. It's a separate role from student mentoring, not a repurposed version of it.
How does attendance actually get tracked?
Students scan a QR code the teacher displays to check in, and can scan again to log leaving the room (with where they're headed) and coming back — or mark themselves done for the day if they won't be returning. If a student can't scan, there's a manual fallback, but it only ever logs leaving/returning for someone already marked present — it can't be used to check someone in who wasn't actually there.
For admins and schools
What does an admin actually see?
Session volume, attendance rates, busiest days, mentor activity, and office-hours turnout — filterable by week, month, semester, or all time — plus one-click CSV export of any date range for reporting or accreditation. Admins oversee the network without coordinating every individual connection by hand.
What data does Collegion collect on students, and what happens to it?
Collegion doesn't import institutional rosters or pull data from your SIS — accounts are self-entered by the people using them, scoped to your school's own private organization, and not sold or shared with outside advertisers. How long does it take to get set up?
Setup is creating your organization, inviting your first admins and mentors, and turning on the features you want (QR attendance, teacher portal, groups) — there's no data migration or roster import required to start, since accounts are self-entered. New users get a role-specific interactive walkthrough the first time they sign in, so admins aren't stuck training everyone by hand.
What happens over school breaks?
Admins can post key dates and breaks that show up on every member's calendar the moment they're added, so the platform reflects your actual academic calendar instead of assuming a standard semester.
